“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; He Who keeps you will not slumber.” Psalm 121:1-3 ESV
In Christ alone is where the soul rests.
When tribulation and adversity arises, we quickly fall prey to seeking external resources, not knowing that the Resource of all things has already begun to keep and protect us. It is Christ Jesus Who speaks to the Father on our behalf. It is God in Heaven Who breathes peace and rest into His children's soul. It is the Holy Spirit Who draws us to God’s Throne and into His presence. As we go before God with our difficulties, we receive knowledge into a reality that has always been. Christ loves us and He will protect those who are born again. He will fight our battles and will guide us in His perfect will, so long as we seek Him. It is, therefore, Christ alone where the soul rests.
When the soul sees that Eternity is stamped within, it desires to prepare and advance towards that which will last.
Gregory of Nyssa once said, “As no darkness can be seen by anyone surrounded by light, so no trivialities can capture the attention of anyone who has his eyes on Christ.” It is when the soul’s eyes are upon Christ that they can endure any trial or season. The more we go to Christ, the less our attention is focused on circumstance. As we grow closer to our Heavenly Father, we realize that this life is fleeting. We no longer become consumed or angered by the trifles of the day. We no longer become aroused by subtle temptations and pet-peeves that once ruled us. For when the soul sees that Eternity is stamped within, it desires to prepare and advance towards that which will last. It equips itself by fixating its eyes upon Him Who is the Logos.
It is God alone Who can speak a universe into existence. It is God alone Who gives life to man. It is God alone Who does all things that are Good. The more we allow this reality to sink within our soul, the less we will be affected by situations that are out of our control. We will not let ourselves become annoyed by things that once used to control us. Gossip will become extinct from our mouth and we will desire to speak about the things of Christ. We will have a burning desire within our heart to share how Christ has defeated that which used to rule us. We will be living testimonies that reveal the power, glory and love of Christ.
Christ’s Light is infinitely greater than the sun, for He is the Son of God.
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind stays on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3 ESV). Perfect peace comes from Him Who is perfect. Christ’s Light is infinitely greater than the sun, for He is the Son of God. We simply disallow ourselves from coming fully into that Light and experiencing its warmth by self and sin. We desire to be in control of our lives, yet, the closer we come to Christ, the more we want of Him. He alone is our Rock and Fortress. He is our Protector and Sustainer. He is the One Who saves. The more we grow in Him, the more we become like Him. The longer we hold our soul's eyes on Him, the greater will be the shedding of our old self. We will become the holy citizens that we were meant to be. Though this life will never provide us with perfection, we ourselves will grow closer to perfection through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.
May we cease from being ruled by the day. Instead, may the soul’s eyes be upon Christ. May He be the One Who forever rules and reigns within our lives.
We must therefore allow ourselves to melt into the presence of Thee Almighty. We must neglect the power of the world, people, and circumstance to dictate how we feel. We must desire to look at nothing but Christ, for in Christ are all things of Goodness, Faithfulness, Peace, Love and Hope. He alone provides the perfect blessing. He alone changes our mindset. He alone transforms our heart. He alone touches our soul with Divine love and ecstasy. May He forever remain on the throne of our heart. May we cease from being ruled by the day. Instead, may the soul’s eyes be upon Christ. May He be the One Who forever rules and reigns within our lives.
Lord, we trust in You.
PRAYER
O Blessed Christ, You have provided a way where there was no way. Stuck in our sin, shame and guilt, You went to the Cross and paid the penalty that we so deserved. Your Blood dripped for us. God, we are not worthy of such a sacrificial offering. To send Your perfect Son in flesh to go through a horrific death draws us to our knees. O blessed Savior, draw us into Your presence. Show us the path of righteousness. Draw our soul’s eyes upon You and keep us fixated upon Your blessed face. May we find peace in You. May we worship You with our body, mind, soul, heart, and spirit. Lord, we dedicate all we are to You. Transform us for Your glory. Make us men and women who no longer are ruled be the exterior or physical, but are ruled by Your Holy Spirit. We yield and surrender all to You, O Lord. May Your will be done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
